There is criminal liability for defamation and insults on the Internet

A. G. was born in 1970 to the Investigative Department of the IIBB of Tashkent city filed an application and asked to take legal action against Sh.S., born in 1962. According to the expert opinion obtained during the inspection based on the application, Sh.S. it was found that there are insulting words in the audio recordings spoken by A.G.

In the actions of Sh.S., part 2 of Article 139 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (“Defamation by publication or reproduction in any other way, including by posting in the mass media, telecommunications networks or the Internet global information network”) and Article 140 2 – was involved in the investigation as a suspect due to the presence of symptoms of the crime provided for in part “(Insulting by publishing or reproducing in any other way, including by posting in the mass media, telecommunication networks or the Internet global information network”). In order to check the mental state of Sh.S., a forensic psychiatric examination was appointed in the framework of the criminal case. According to the court ruling, the suspect Sh.S. placed in a medical institution. We inform you that all procedural requirements were fully complied with during the investigation process, and there are no obstacles for Sh.S.’s lawyer to participate in the investigation process. Investigations are currently underway.
